It's not terribly original, but I really like it.
Of course, I am prone to childish flights of fancy.
Sorry.
I am inclined towards a dreamer's unrealistic pursuits. According to the powers-that-be, it is, apparently, a very ridiculous idea.
Nevertheless, I do like it.
Can I share it with you?
It's called the United States of America.
As I say, it's just an idea.
Perhaps, like all immature men, I am romanticizing the impossible for the very reason that it does... not... exist.
Mind you, as foolish as it may be, I will fight for this idea.
Because it's still the greatest idea ever...
It's the notion that just because the fix is in, the regular guy can still potentially win. How? Because, we, the people, will fight just so that a single voice can be heard.
It's the foolish concept that a poor guy who loves a poor gal can still have their peace, their place, their home and their family as long they are willing to work.
It's the idea that a land of God-Blessed abundance might be governed by those who won't allow the creation of a man-made aristocracy which can hoard, scheme and exploit those whose only limitation is a lack of inheritance.
It's the childish pretense that all men are created equal.
It's the even more ridiculous and romantic notion that this is self evident.
It's the fabulist presumption that such an idea might actually be teachable, attractive and become a building block for all of us. Everywhere.
It is, apparently, the very dangerous notion that we have a right to assemble freely.
It's the absurd demand that we have the right to petition our government (and its liquid, Capital partners) for a redress of grievances.
It's the idea that truth and its pursuit are to be protected at all costs.
It's the idea that a free press is just that; that it can go where it wants and report what it sees because facts, a thing for which there are not different versions, are sacred.
I could go on...
But, these are obviously my unrealistic pipe dreams.
They have no bearing on the real world.
They are absurd, immature notions.
It's not like a collection of great men has ever fought to the death for them.
Right?
America is and always has been and always will be just an idea. It is an idea that holds many of people together. Still just an idea. A idea that hundreds of thousands have died for but it still remains just an idea.Land of opportunity only to those imigrating from worse off countries.
