There is a devastating piece in Salon by Daniel Denvir on the state of American education and not in the way you might think. It would seem that in the quest for the stultifying confomity of instituitonalized results, I am sorry, I mean higher standardized scoring, fundamentals that have defined our growth culturally for thousands of years are just simply being abandoned. Meet filmmaker Jim Jarmusch. If you are lucky, you have seen his transplantation of the ancient Japanese warrior code to the hipster-gangster-film in "Ghost Dog." If you are really lucky, you have perhaps marveled at his whimsically bizarre Rashomon-meets-Elvis study of perspectives in "Mystery Train". And, if you are super incredibly lucky, you have seen his seminal and bittersweet study of personal devotion, "Stranger Than Paradise." But, what you may not know is that Jarmusch had one of the most interesting experimental bands of the very early eighties. This is pure art.

The Miraculous Comma

As a writer, I find myself struggling daily with the appropriate use of the "comma." To be sure, victory in this affair is no mean feat. Alas, and as is often the case, I feel I may be doing this crucial punctuation mark an injustice. Nevertheless, I try.
I would hope that the graphic at least partially conveys its existential importance.
