Tony Perkins - Anti-Gay Activist

One has to wonder what the editorial staff at the Washington Post has been thinking over the last year or so. They've given a regular forum to torture advocate Marc Thiessen. Recently, Dinesh D'Souza was granted space to regurgitate his lunacy about our country being "ruled" by some African-rooted revenge fantasy. Now, in the wake of a rash of suicides amongst young gay Americans, they've made sure to give equal time to radical anti-gay activist Tony Perkins.


Jarret Barrios fires back in the WaPo's "On faith" section:


"We called the Post out for their decision to let Perkins do this. The Post told us, via Twitter: "we're working to cover both sides. Earlier, we hosted Dan Savage of It Gets Better in a live chat."

Yes, you read that right. "Both sides."

The Washington Post - one of the most respected news sources in our country's history - is telling a nation full of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender children, that their lives are up for debate."

Frankly, Barrios is too easy on them. Giving Perkins a forum in this discussion is like giving an Op-Ed to the Klan during a debate over interracial marriage.

Perkins wrote:

"Some homosexuals may recognize intuitively that their same-sex attractions are abnormal--yet they have been told by the homosexual movement, and their allies in the media and the educational establishment, that they are "born gay" and can never change. This--and not society's disapproval--may create a sense of despair that can lead to suicide."

This kind of thinking should stay in the hate-pamphlets where it belongs. What is the Post trying to achieve? Are they seeking the same divide between reality and fantasy that we see within the Wall Street Journal's reportage and editorial divisions, respectively? Is it that they really don't care how outlandish a piece is that appears under their masthead as long as it get's "hits?"

Barrios sums it up:

"Technically, the Post is correct when it says it is covering "both sides" of the scourge of anti-gay bullying.

But one of those sides belongs to the bully himself."

Glenn and Dinesh

Dinesh D'Souza's recent Obama hit piece was endorsed yesterday by Glenn Beck. After an intro that included yet another exhortation from Beck for his viewers to read Atlas Shrugged, Dinesh was brought into the studio to stand in front of the infamous blackboard. 


"Anti-Colonialism" was writ large across it


Glenn Beck gave an utterly unquestioning forum to the Dinesh theory that so many principled conservatives have savaged (here, here and here) for both it's intellectual dishonesty and it's patent racism:

"This is the best theory I have heard" Beck said. Nothing like an endorsement from the sputtering "man-baby".

Feel free to contact them and ask if they too endorse the writings of a man who argued in his book, "The Enemy at Home," that American liberalism was responsible for 9/11 because the liberal left has created a degraded and decadent culture that invites the actions of our enemies. 

Dissecting Dinesh

Very conservative writer Heather Mac Donald demolishes the recent insanity of Dinesh D'Souza:

"D’Souza argues that Obama’s policies are motivated by a hatred towards American power absorbed from his Kenyan father.  He offers exactly zero evidence for his hackneyed psychological theory.  But the most laughable weakness in D’Souza’s thesis is the fact that the policies which D’Souza presents as the “dreams of a Luo tribesman” have a decades-long American pedigree and are embraced by wide swathes of the American electorate and political class.  If support for progressive taxation, greater government regulation of health care, stimulus spending, and conservation make one the tool of the African anticolonial movement, then Paul Krugman, Robert Reich, Al Gore, Nancy Pelosi, John Kenneth Galbraith, FDR, and the Sierra Club are all Third World agents provocateurs."

Newt, Dinesh and the Season of Hate

Newt Gingrich has outdone himself. It wasn't enough that yesterday he chose to mark the anniversary of 9/11 by releasing his Citizen's United propaganda DVD at $19.95 a pop. Nope, there's further contribution to our national dialog in the form of verbal bomb throwing over at the National Review.

“What if [Obama] is so outside our comprehension, that only if you understand Kenyan, anti-colonial behavior, can you begin to piece together [his actions]?” Gingrich asks. “That is the most accurate, predictive model for his behavior.”

In the interview, he cites and seems to draw strength from a recent anti-Obama hit piece in Forbes by Dinesh D'souza. Although his own inflammatory comments are getting the most coverage, I think it is this alignment with D'Souza that is both more telling and more offensive.
