FOX Goes After The Poor

August 4th, 2011

Media Matters notes that FOX has significantly ramped up their campaign to tax the poor more while leaving the top quintiles untouched. Seriously. Note the dramatic shift in earnings across all sectors since the "Reagan Revolution." One more time, it is abundantly clear that nothing has trickled down over the last three decades.
"From 1979-2006, the lowest two quintiles saw their incomes increase by 11 and 18 percent. That's the group that Doocy thinks should pay higher income taxes. But the top 1 percent, who the co-hosts think already pay "their fair share," saw their incomes increase by 256 percent.

No wonder economists, liberal and conservative alike, and the American public agree that the deficit can't be erased through spending cuts alone, and that revenues will need to be increased. But none of them seem to be calling for those revenues to come from the poorest Americans. It's easy to see why."

It is easy to see why. Unless one has confused avarice and exploitation with "good business."

Best Media Matters Headline EVER

July 29th, 2011

In case you missed the exchange between Bill Nye and Fox Drone Jon Scott that that inspired the following headline, the video is below the screencap. Watch Nye's face in the clip. We can all add this to the growing file of "things we can't make up."

Yup. That actually happened.

Shepard Smith Bumps Beck & Gets In A Dig

March 11th, 2011

I often receive befuddled looks and awkward pauses from fellow progressives when I tell them how much I genuinely like FOXNews' Shepard Smith. Today, for the obvious reason that a terrible calamity has actually occurred, Glenn Beck's imagined apocaplyptic conspiracy jive has been cancelled. Listen to Shep's emphasis as he explains this, "The Glenn Beck Program Will Not Be Seen Today. This Is Fox News, Continuing Coverage Of News."

To get an idea of what Smith really thinks of having to share studio space with Beck, here's a blast from the not too distant past.

Breitbart, Media Matters And The Simple Truth

Dec 16th, 2010

by F. Grey Parker

There is a reason legitimate conservative commentary is dying; Andrew Breitbart, along with The Murdoch Device and people like Jospeh Farah, is killing it.

First, a little background; Sarah Palin went to Haiti. Pictures were taken of her on the trip. In one photo, transmitted by the AP and picked up very widely, Mrs. Palin is having her hair done. Put aside the obvious questions of both the world media's motives in using this photo over all others AND the lack of judgement on Mrs. Palin's part by getting photo-ready in public during a cholera epidemic.

What has overtaken the discussion represents the clear difference between the activist commenetariat on the Left and the Right. Begin by examining the photo and the accompanying AP copy.

The AP photo caption reads:
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, center, has her hair done during a visit to a cholera treatment center set up by the NGO Samaritan’s Purse in Cabaret, Haiti, Saturday Dec. 11, 2010. Palin arrived Saturday in Haiti as part of a brief humanitarian mission. Dieu Nalio Chery / AP.”

Now, it seems to be fairly accurate. Mrs. Palin is indeed having her hair done. Note that the word "hairdresser" appears nowhere in the caption. Incidentally, it is clearly Bristol Palin attending to her mother. It really isn't news.

The Murdoch Device's Ongoing Scheme

Dec 15th, 2010

The Murdoch Device continues it's partisan crusade against, well, knowledge and language.

From HuffPo:
"A top Fox News editor sent an email to staffers and journalists questioning the science behind global warming and directing them to always point out on air that the theory has its skeptics.

Media Matters obtained the memo. It is the second such email the organization has released in as many weeks. Like the last one, the global warming memo came from Bill Sammon, Fox News' Washington managing editor. Sammon was also the author of an email directing journalists to use the phrase "government option" instead of "public option."
