Mitt's Total Disconnect

July 11th, 2012

While speaking to the NAACP convention today, Mitt got booed severely when he reaffirmed his commitment to the total repeal of "Obamacare." Did he try to recover? Well, yeah. But his pivot was to a "survey of the Chamber of Commerce."

You cannot make this stuff up.

Mitt Romney's Empathy Problem

Feb 1st, 2012

When I wrote about Bain Capital a few days ago, I stressed that one of Mitt Romney's main obstacles come November is the perception that he lacks empathy. Now, he has handed American voters one more reason to suspect he doesn't have a clue what it's like to be an ordinary citizen in this economy.

ABC reports:

"GOP front-runner Mitt Romney said this morning that he's not concerned about the plight of the country's very poor because there are social safety nets that take care of them.

"I'm in this race because I care about Americans," Romney told CNN's Soledad O'Brien this morning after his resounding victory in Florida on Tuesday. "I'm not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there. If it needs repair, I'll fix it."

Obviously, this has blown up in his face.

Quote Of The Day - Here and Now Edition

Sept. 8th, 2011

"Perhaps not since George McGovern’s annihilation at the hands of Richard Nixon in 1972 has a candidate’s Primary base been so alienated from the center of American political thought as the Tea Party is today. Make no mistake: no candidate who doesn’t convincingly throw the red meat to the Tea Party audiences will have a sliver of a chance of getting nominated."
-- Jamie McFadden, writing for Frum in the wake of last night's GOP debate.

Netantahu - The "Anti-Israeli" Israeli Prime Minister?

August 3rd, 2011
by F. Grey Parker

Did that headline grab ya? Okay, then. Let's back up.

This past May, President Obama was roundly savaged by many of his opponents for daring to repeat one of the standard diplomatic positions of the United States, a position dating back to the Reagan administration and consistently maintained through the Bush 2 regime.

"The borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps so that secure and recognized borders are established for both states."

Horrors! How could he? How could someone with a name like Barack Hussein Obama, even if he is Commander in Chief of the armed forces of the United States, dare to think of maintaining policy continuity in international relations?!

The reaction was swift.

What If?

July 23rd, 2011

What if a Republican President was presiding over a stock market rally such as this one? I believe a currency redesign to accommodate his profile might well be underway.

Michele Bachmann Thinks The Jobs Report Is Great... For Her Campaign

July 8th, 2011

In spite of a few lapses in judgment already this morning, this one takes the prize. She just gave an interview with CNBC's Carl Quintanilla that included this exchange (via):

Quintanilla: "Does it strike you that as the unemployment rate goes up that your chances of winning office also go up?"

Bachmann: "Well, that could be. Again, I hope so."

Some propaganda is just so wildly dense as to leave me mostly speechless. Today, Jezebel shone a light on arguably the most questionable medium for an anti-choice message I have ever seen. A coat hanger. Seriously. The picture says it all.
