Allen West - Jingositic Coward

Everyone has been talking about Allen West's channeling of Joe McCarthy over the weekend. In case you somehow missed it, here's what he said:

"And we need to let President Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and my dear friend the chairman of the Democrat National Committee (Debbie Wasserman Schultz), we need to let them know Florida ain't on the table. Take your message of equality of achievement, take your message of economic dependency, take your message of enslaving the entrepreneurial will and spirit of the American people somewhere else. You can take it to Europe, you can take it to the bottom of the sea, you can take it the North Pole, but get the hell out of the United States of America." EMPHASIS OURS

Uh huh. America... "love it or leave it." Right? Provided you that "love it" the way the people that spout this kind of horseshit "love it." We've heard that before.

Well, Mr West, war criminal and general pussy, walked back and stumbled over his remarks today on Fox and CNN:

"The other thing is that I did not refer to any person leaving. If you go back and read the transcript of the message that I gave, it was about equality of achievement, it was about economic dependence, it was about enslaving the American entrepreneur’s will and spirit. That message needs to leave this country. And that was what I was referring to. And I think that anyone that sat back and looked at the entirety of that 12 minute, 45 second speech would understand that we’re talking about a contrast of visions of this country."

Mr West doesn't even have to the guts to stand by his own petty hatreds.

This is, of course, totally unsurprising in light of the shame he brought upon our nation by violating the trust of his service.

As for "duplicitous hypocrisy," as he calls it?

I can think of no more pointed example than his own;

Demanding that pundits still refer to him as a "lieutenant colonel" when his failure to lead and his crimes not only resulted in his own humiliating dismissal from the service but also very likely got more of our young men and women killed...

that's "duplicitous hypocrisy."

Regarding Allen West's Godwin Violation

Earlier, we nominated Rep. Allen West (R-FL) for a Godwin Award following his conflation of the Democratic Party's "propaganda machine" with Goebbels.

Steve Benen chimes in:

"Now, I think it’s fair to say most objective, independent observers would agree that Allen West is stark raving mad, which suggests his comments are not to be taken especially seriously.

But just for the sake of conversation, let’s note a couple of things. First, I think it’s called the Democratic Party. If West is going to be in Congress, he should probably take a moment to learn the parties’ names.

Second, earlier this year, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) made a passing reference to Goebbels when going after Republican rhetoric, and Fox News was apoplectic. Megyn Kelly, in particular, devoted quite a bit of time to covering the comment, and I can’t wait to see — in the interests of being fair and balanced — how much time she invests in criticizing Allen West for the same misdeed.

And finally, even if we put aside the Nazi garbage, what on earth is West talking about? Democrats are good at message dissemination? Democrats“have an incredible propaganda machine”? Since when?

I’ve been watching Democratic politics for as long as I can remember. The party has plenty of strengths, but the development of an “incredible propaganda machine” isn’t one of them."

Did that headline grab ya? Okay, then. Let's back up.

This past May, President Obama was roundly savaged by many of his opponents for daring to repeat one of the standard diplomatic positions of the United States, a position dating back to the Reagan administration and consistently maintained through the Bush 2 regime.

"The borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps so that secure and recognized borders are established for both states."

Horrors! How could he? How could someone with a name like Barack Hussein Obama, even if he is Commander in Chief of the armed forces of the United States, dare to think of maintaining policy continuity in international relations?!

The reaction was swift.

Allen West - Standing By His Craziness

Rep. Elect Allen West (R-FL) has said some nutty things in the past. From declaring himself to have a higher security clearance than The President to calling for the censorship of American journalists, he has come across as, well, crazy. Has he tempered his public pronouncements in the wake of the resultant withering criticism?

Nope. He officially doubled down on the crazy during an appearance yesterday on The Murdoch Device:

"Asked by host Chris Wallace if he was willing to stand by his comments that the "liberal, progressive" agenda was "tyrannical, socialist, despicable," West responded... "I think it is."

You'd think that someone who has been described by fellow veterans of the Iraq War as "a verified torturer, war criminal and a liar" might not play so fast and loose with words like "despicable."

Allen West - Florida's Fascist Representative

Think Progress just released a hell of a clip of the notorious incoming Florida Representative Allen West. He's a fascist. That's just all there is to it. We don't "censor" news agencies in America. Apparently, that's just silly talk to him.

"WEST: There are different means by which you can be attacked. I mean it doesnt have to be a bomb or an airplane flying into a building. It doesn’t have to be a shooting. It can be through cyber attacks, it could be through leaking of very sensitive classified information. Regardless of whether you think it causes any harm, the fact that here is an individual that is not an American citizen first and foremost, for whatever reason gotten his hands on classified American material and put it out there in the public domain. And I think that we also should be censoring the American news agencies which enabled him to do this and also supported him and applauding him for the efforts. So that’s kind of aiding and abetting of a serious crime."

Crazy Is On The Bus, part 1

They are on their way. The new Republican congressional members, with all their naiveté and delusions of a "mandate," are about to arrive and they are bringing the crazy. Indeed, crazy is on the bus and The Crazy Bus is barreling down on Washington D.C. 
 


I don't remember another election where so many new representatives were expected to fix government by opposing the concept that we need government. Perhaps I just don't get some form of folksy wisdom. But they really seem sure of themselves, don't they? 

The big message of The Tea party, we are told, is to reduce spending and the deficit while lowering taxes. These are such obviously opposing goals given the realities of our economy that we are going to need some specifics fairly soon. How are they going to pull this off?

The highest profile newcomer backed by the Tea Party, Rand Paul (R-KY), appeared today on ABC's This Week.  When pressed on this, he seemed supremely confident of not much in particular.

"Give me one specific cut, Senator-elect," This Week anchor Christiane Amanpour asked Paul in an exclusive interview Sunday morning. 

"All across the board," Paul said. 

"But you just can't keep saying all across the board," Amanpour pressed.
  
"No, I can."

Okay then. The thing is, Senator-elect Paul may be one of the sanest and most grounded of the bunch. The really jaw-droppingly lunatic newcomers are mostly going to the House of Representatives.

Meet Allen West of Boca Raton, Florida. Viewed widely overseas and by many here at home as a war criminal, Mr. West rode the Tea Party "tidal wave" to victory. 


You may recall, he was also the candidate who said he has a higher security clearance than The Commander in Chief. In the words of VoteVets, "He's a verified torturer, war criminal and liar."


Would this have been remotely acceptable only a few years ago? Why has it become acceptable now? I think, perhaps, there may be those in the Tea Party who not only admire a lack of knowledge, but also mistake a certain kind of lawlessness for American Exceptionalism. Which is a polite way of saying they are dangerous brutes.
