Information on how to act is at the bottom of the post
The U.S. Senate is poised to vote today on S. 1867, the annual National Defense Authorization Act. This year's bill is very different. It is a threat to our fundamental way of life. This is not hyperbole.
There are two provisions contained in the legislation, drafted by Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI) and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), which would allow the current and all future Presidents to declare a U.S. citizen on U.S. soil an enemy combatant. Any one of us, for any reason, could be arrested, detained and held indefinitely without charge or trial by our own military.
It is an existential moment for our country. We are now faced with the question of whether or not we are still America. It has been long coming. Many of us have argued since the initial passage of the Patriot Act and the launch of our now more than a decade old state of Permawar that the steady betrayal of our founding principles would eventually lead to just this sort of casual dismissal of the most basic guarantees provided by the Constitution.

The sheer scope of the tar sands project makes this fight that much more difficult. We need every voice raised as loudly as possible.

Bachmann Should Apologize
Aug 29th, 2011
Billions of dollars in damage from hurricane Irene and a death toll now standing at 37 were apparently fodder for a little Dominionist humor over the weekend. Yup. Rep Michele Bachmann (R-MN) joked that it was God's wrath because of liberal spending.
If you think Rep. bachmann should apologize, you can sign the Credo petition HERE
Or, you can send her a message on Twitter HERE
Or, you can send her a message on Facebook HERE
Or, you call her Washington D.C. office at (202) 225-2331
Or, you call her Minnesota offices at 651-731-5400 and 320-253-5931

Personally, I think you should choose all of the above as your option
Unless, of course, you think scenes like these are funny.

Conniption In Wisconsin

Please support the efforts to recall Wisconsin's anti worker corporatists HERE, HERE and HERE
Hey! Are you a disgruntled Wisconsin conservative who feels depressed that the tide of public opinion does not actually support your initiatives? Are you angry that so many of your fellow citizens are trying to use the tools guaranteed them under the law to recall valiant corporatists working against those greedy "workers"?
Do you fear that close to a million dollars in out of state astro-turf propaganda just isn't enough to get "your" message across? Are television ads showing a Wisconsin teacher (stock video of a model/actress pretending to be a teacher who is not actually from Wisconsin) not winning over hearts and minds to "your" fight? Well, one man felt just that way.
From The River Falls Journal:
"River Falls police were asked to track down and find a suspect who had made off with a batch of Sen. Sheila Harsdorf recall petition signatures late Sunday afternoon. The alleged theft occurred on the sidewalk near EconoFoods. The male suspect pretended he wanted to sign the petition to recall Harsdorf but instead swiped the forms with signatures and drove off.
The man drove back in five minutes and tossed the petition toward the group of volunteers. Either it was a poor throw or they couldn’t catch. The paperwork landed on wet pavement. With a vehicular and suspect description, an officer traced the man to his home near the River Falls Area Hospital.

The man seemed indignant that a police officer was at his door and denied being near EconoFoods. Then he said he couldn’t be accused of stealing the petition signatures because he returned them.
When informed of his arrest, he allegedly resisted being handcuffed and began yelling about police brutality. His wife, also home, told her husband to calm down."

Indiana's Shame - Rep. Pence Now Leads The War On Women
Feb 19th, 2011
THERE ARE LINKS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST TO HELP DEFEND WOMEN'S ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE
Indiana's Rep. Mike Pence (R-Dist 6) managed to successfully endanger the health of women nationwide yesterday. The Republican dominated House of Representatives passed his amendment to fully defund taxpayer support of Planned Parenthood by a vote of 240-185.
10 Democrats joined their backwards colleagues. They are listed below along with their contact information.

Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America was blunt in her response. "To be clear, the amendment to prohibit Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funding does nothing to reduce the deficit and it does nothing to improve the economy. In fact, health professionals will actually lose their jobs as a result, and, most egregiously, it takes health care away from American women who cannot afford to pay for it on their own."
