CBS reports:
"Indiana has become the first Rust Belt state to enact the contentious right-to-work labor law prohibiting labor contracts that require workers to pay union representation fees.
Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels signed the bill Wednesday after it passed the Senate following weeks of discord that saw House Democrats boycott the Legislature and thousands of protesters gather at the Statehouse.
Indiana is the first state in a decade to enact a right-to-work law."
This bill is a blow to every working man and woman in the country.

Our home base is here in North West Indiana. As such, we have been fighting against Gov. Mitch Daniels' "right-to-work" plot since last June.
Just after the New Year, Daniels renewed this odious assault on, well, the advances of the post-Feudal economy that once defined our nation's progress. It is a bitter engagement. Credit Where Due

The New Year has brought the so-called "right-to-work" movement back to the forefront of politics here in Indiana. We gave our two cents HERE and took some pleasure in the NFL Players Association registering there opposition HERE. That said, not all members of this state's GOP are going along without asking some questions. AP reports via Yahoo:
"A conservative state senator is expressing skepticism about the right-to-work bill under consideration by an Indiana legislative committee.
Republican Sen. Brent Waltz of Greenwood asked the president of the Oklahoma chamber of commerce whether the energy industry had a greater impact on that state's economic health than its adoption of a right-to-work law in 2001. Waltz says he wasn't convinced about the law's economic sway."
Thank you, Sen. Waltz. We hope you are sufficiently steeled for blow-back. Having broken with your party's irrational orthodoxy, it's definitely coming.

A Little Old Time Solidarity - First & Ten Edition

We've been watching events unfold in the fight over "right-to-work" legislation here in Indiana all week. Despite the best efforts of Democrats in the Statehouse, it is barreling ahead. At this point, passage seems fairly certain. Therefore, it was a genuine pleasure to see this additional support for the opposition today (via HuffPo):
"The union representing NFL players spoke out Friday against a controversial right-to-work bill on the table in Indiana, arguing that the legislation is merely a "political ploy" that would drive down workers' wages if it became law.
"NFL players know what it means to fight for workers' rights, better pensions and health and safety in the workplace," the National Football League Players Association said in a statement. The right-to-work bill, the statement went on, is "not about jobs or rights, and it's the wrong priority for Indiana."
I look forward to Mitch Daniel's lackeys trying to spin the NFL as a bunch of anti-Capitalist radicals.

Today, Gov Mitch Daniels (R-IN) is joining the GOP's nationwide war on labor, quality of life and the ability to collectively bargain.
Reuters reports:
"Indiana begins what is expected to be a raucous debate on Wednesday as a bill is introduced in the state legislature that could make it the first "right-to-work" state in the nation's traditional manufacturing belt.
The legislation is expected to pass the Republican-majority Indiana assembly with the support of Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels, who said it is "all about new job opportunities."
Indeed. The opportunity for longer hours, less money, no security, no benefits and the dreary desperation of living less and less like Americans and more and more like the residents of a banana republic. Sounds great, doesn't it?

There Is STILL No 4th Amendment In Indiana

This is not hyperbole. In May, one of the worst decisions in Indiana's history was handed down by this state's Supreme Court. Today, that court doubled down. As of this writing, there is an apparent lack of coordinated pushback. Some civil rights attorneys here are saying, off the record, that they fear the current SCOTUS might not strike down this assault on the 4th Amendment.

"The Indiana Supreme Court has affirmed its controversial ruling that Hoosiers have no right to ever physically resist police entry into their homes.
In a 4-1 decision, the state's high court said Tuesday the common law rule that "a man's home is his castle" cannot be used as a defense if a person is accused of attacking a police officer entering a home in an official capacity.
"Our holding does no more than bring Indiana common law in stride with jurisdictions that value promoting safety in situations where police and homeowners interact," wrote Justice Steven David for the court.
The ruling stemmed from an alleged 2007 Evansville domestic violence incident where Richard Barnes shoved a police officer trying to enter Barnes' home to investigate after Barnes told the officer he couldn't come in.
Barnes claimed the jury in his misdemeanor battery case should have been instructed that Barnes had a lawful right to resist what he considered an illegal police entry into his home.
In May, the five-member Supreme Court rejected Barnes' appeal, 3-2, saying Hoosiers have no right to resist even unlawful police entry into their homes." EMPHASeS OURS

Bad News Here In Indiana

Well, we used to have the 4th Amendment in Indiana. Dan Carden reports for NWI:
"INDIANAPOLIS | Overturning a common law dating back to the English Magna Carta of 1215, the Indiana Supreme Court ruled Thursday that Hoosiers have no right to resist unlawful police entry into their homes.
In a 3-2 decision, Justice Steven David writing for the court said if a police officer wants to enter a home for any reason or no reason at all, a homeowner cannot do anything to block the officer's entry.
"We believe ... a right to resist an unlawful police entry into a home is against public policy and is incompatible with modern Fourth Amendment jurisprudence," David said. "We also find that allowing resistance unnecessarily escalates the level of violence and therefore the risk of injuries to all parties involved without preventing the arrest."
David said a person arrested following an unlawful entry by police still can be released on bail and has plenty of opportunities to protest the illegal entry through the court system."
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Everyone in America should be enraged by this. We are supposed to be guaranteed the following under the Constitution.

Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America was blunt in her response. "To be clear, the amendment to prohibit Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funding does nothing to reduce the deficit and it does nothing to improve the economy. In fact, health professionals will actually lose their jobs as a result, and, most egregiously, it takes health care away from American women who cannot afford to pay for it on their own."
