A Spectacular Falsehood

July 3rd, 2012 7:45am CST
UPDATE July 4th, 2012 8:00am CST: At this time, there is still no correction nor has there been any response to our requests for one. Contact @KarlRove, @AndrewCMcCarthy, @NROCorner or @RichLowry and demand that they explain themselves.

Have you heard the one about the President planning to spend Independence Day at a fundraiser in France? The rumor is all over the fringes of the right. Wedged in between hyperventilations over the President's "Kenyan birthplace" and "Agenda 21," the comments sections of our country's "anyone-but-Obama" blogs are full of it.

The story is, of course, as baseless as it is absurd. It is the kind of nonsense which has become so commonplace in the rumor-sphere that it would ordinarily not merit much discussion.

But this one is different. It's not just the web-rabble and the knuckle-draggers who are pushing it.

Over at the National Review, Andy McCarthy picked it up on Saturday morning. He ran with it. It's still there as I go to post, 72 hours later, without correction.

Even better, good old Karl Rove picked up the McCarthy link and tweeted it a short time later to his 353,000 followers. His post is also still up. He also hasn't issued any correction. In fact, he hasn't tweeted since.
Steve Benen writes:

"The reality is simple: neither the president nor his family are going to Paris for the 4th of July. They will, of course, be in the United States, celebrating the holiday at the White House, hosting an event for military families. Republican media outlets reporting otherwise are lying."

Benen is too kind. After three days, it seems clear that this is not cynical carelessness. This is coordinated propaganda.

Iowa Caucus Dirty Tricks?

Jan 4th, 2012

Karoli explores the possibility:

"Ah, Republican love for democracy at work. And let's not minimize the fact that the one and only Karl Rove is the one to share the news with viewers.

After six hours of Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum exchanging leads by the barest of margins, suddenly the vote counts dropped for Santorum and rose for Romney, so that Santorum's 20+ vote lead dropped to 4 votes. Rove earnestly explains that there was a transposition on entry of final totals, and when it was adjusted, it went to Mitt Romney's favor.

That left only the votes in Keokuk outstanding. Karl Rove explains that both candidates have agreed to what the final tally was for that precinct, leaving Mitt with the win by 14 votes.

How convenient. We can't have the GOP Anointed One usurped by an interloper, even if it is another GOP party acolyte. Even more convenient that Rove is the guy who has the story first. Had it, or wrote it? Which?"

We can't embed the clip from her post HERE, but after watching it, Karoli's questions are more than reasonable.

Karl Rove agrees

She's Going To Run

Aug 21st, 2011

If you thought the entrance of Gov. Rick Perry dragged the debate down, just wait. It seems clear the Sarah Palin is about to join the race. In spite of months of the beltway crowd arguing that she would not, they never seem to have considered the fact that Palin is a certifiable megalomaniac. She can't not run. She is far and away her own favorite person in the world, after all. In her mind, how could she possibly deny America the amazing gift of herself?

Watch the video below. It looks like a campaign ad. It sure as heck sounds like a campaign ad. I think it is a campaign ad.

Sooo, FOX. The Crisis Facing America Is A Black Poet?

May 12th, 2011

Let's just say that after yesterday's shameful display on FOX (especially you, Hannity) regarding the White House appearance by the poet Common, we are justifiably having fun at Murdoch's expense.
