Quote Of The Day - We Were Warned Edition

May 6th, 2012

Image via
"Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem.

Frankly, these people frighten me.

Politics and governing demand compromise.

But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them."

Repulslican Economics

Aug 22nd, 2011

Proving, for the umpteenth time, that contemporary elected Republicans simply don't understand the college freshman concept of aggregate demand comes this little excerpt from the HuffPo today:

"...many of the same Republicans who are fiercely protective of tax cuts for the wealthy have already said they oppose Obama's plan to extend the payroll tax cut for low income Americans.

"It's always a net positive to let taxpayers keep more of what they earn," Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) told the AP, "but not all tax relief is created equal for the purposes of helping to get the economy moving again."

Amazing. I am compelled to give a lesson. For all the "rich" people and their mouthpieces that call the President a "socialist" but fail to grasp even the most childlike fundamentals of consumer society (psst, that's called Capitalism, by the way), here's a primer:

A Note To McConnell...

July 14th, 2011

Today, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) made a remarkable pronouncement regarding public perception of the President's culpability should our nation fail to raise the debt ceiling. From HuffPo:
"If the President wants to threaten seniors or veterans or rattle the world economy by pretending he can’t pay our bills, let him," McConnell said. “But he’s not going to implicate Republicans in these efforts

With all due respect, Mitch, the facts on the ground via the most recent Quinnipac poll show that the public already knows who to blame:

"Obama outscores congressional Republicans on several points in the deficit reduction battle:

Voters will blame Republicans over Obama 48 - 34 percent if the debt limit is not raised

Voters say 67 - 25 percent that an agreement to raise the debt ceiling should include tax hikes for the wealthy and corporations, not just spending cuts"

This is now... before the resultant explosion of inflation and interest rates that would follow a failure to treat the raising of the debt limit as, in the words of former George W. Bush budget director and current Republican governor of Indiana Mitch Daniels, "the housekeeping matter it is."

Enjoy your place in the history books, Sen. McConnell.

The Right Hates Obama For Doing What They Want Him To Do

March 22nd, 2011

A CNN poll of American opinion on the Libyan conflict seems to have inadvertently shone a light upon the sheer madness of right wing emotionalism:

Overall, 70% of Americans support the "No-Fly Zone" strategy currently underway. (GRAPHIC BELOW)

Taking a closer look at public opinion on "Obama's handling" of the situation, the views of self identified "conservatives" get just plain preposterous (HT to Dave Weigel):

50% of all voters approve of "Obama's handling"
41% of voters do not approve of "Obama's handling"

63% of Republicans say they disapprove of "Obama's handling"
76% of Tea Party "supporters" disapprove of "Obama's handling"

73% of Tea Partiers approve of the "No-Fly Zone"
78% of Republicans approve of the "No-Fly Zone"

Pssst... The "No-Fly Zone" IS "Obama's handling" of the Libyan situation.

A Mind Changed

Mar 2nd, 2011

This is an impressive display of the simple power of truth. A Madison, WI police officer who has spent his life as a Republican declares his solidarity with the workers of his state and his intention to switch party affiliation. Amongst his reasons are "FOX's lies."

Against Their Own Interests

Feb 22nd, 2011

The Republicans have really done an amazing job of convincing Americans to root for their own destruction.
