Newt Watch - Cashing In On Rush Limbaugh's "Slut-Shaming"

Well, even after the fat man issued his phony apology, there was at least one politician who sought to gain some advantage by dragging himself through Rush's snail-stain.

The National Journal reports:

"Newt Gingrich on Saturday used the flap over Rush Limbaugh's controversial denunciations of Sandra Fluke as a way to attack President Obama for acting "opportunistically" when he called the Georgetown University law student to express his disappointment over Limbaugh's comments.

After Limbaugh described Fluke as a “slut” and “prostitute” for advocating for subsidizing birth control, Obama contacted Fluke personally. Numerous conservatives and other GOP presidential candidates have rebuked the conservative broadcaster to varying degrees, but the former House speaker said he saw the issue much differently.

"I think the president will opportunistically do anything he can," Gingrich said in response to a reporter’s question after a rally in Hamilton. "I think the most important use of language in the last week has been the president's apology to religious fanatics, and I want to stay focused on what the president has said, and I think what he said was inexcusable and is exactly the wrong policy at a time of life and death, and playing political games is irrelevant as far as I'm concerned."

My first reaction is to suggest that Gingrich, with this act of opportunism, is the last person who should accuse anyone else of behaving "opportunistically."

What's really illuminating here is that he attempted to use the vile spectacle while simultaneously framing it as no big deal.

Limbaugh has indeed descended to a previously unimagined depth. Did you know the regime change in Iraq took "a couple of days?" Yup. That's all. Suffering through Rush failing to understand why the President is not committing ground troops to Libya is one thing. But listening to this talentless liar dismiss the toll in blood and treasure that has accompanied the last 10 years of permawar is beyond the pale.

Rep. Darrell Issa is embroiled in some very recent allegations of financial impropriety out west. Perhaps even bribery...

"Last summer, Issa went on a property-buying spree. In the span of two months, he bought industrial complexes in Oceanside and Carlsbad and a condo overlooking Oceanside Bay. Even his son picked up a home in Vista. 




The Carlsbad complex, however, is at the center of a lawsuit playing out in Los Angeles County Superior Court. A bank lender in Ventura County is accusing a bank of selling Issa the building for at least $3 million less than it should have.

The property is a series of five brand-new buildings near McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad. Currently, all but one unit is empty, but they can be rented through Greene Properties, a company that employs Issa’s wife and son. The project was dreamed up by Orange County “new urbanism” developer David Dirienzo, who defaulted on a $36-million construction loan in January 2009. 

The main lender, East West Bank, put the property up for auction but decided not to sell, instead filing a $12-million “credit bid” to hang onto it. Two weeks later, the bank sold the property to Issa’s company, DEI LLC, for $8.5 million"

It will be a wonderful day when James O'Keefe is no longer mentioned in any way whatsoever during our political discourse. Yes, I refer to that James O'Keefe. He was the punk kid with white-supremacist ties who sank ACORN using Reifenstahl film techniques. He was the darling of Andrew Breitbart and FOX. He was the guy who broke federal law by trying to interfere with phone lines in the office of an elected official. 


Celebrated by the reactionary right wing media as a "hero," he has at last gone too far. 

O'Keefe is the perfect representative of the American right today. Currently, our most vocal "victim-hood movement" is white, upper middle class and largely socially conservative. You know... republicans.
