Calling the aughts the "lost decade of the middle class," PEW has released the results of some recent polling. Their sample was asked to assess "blame" for the general collapse of American upward mobility. The numbers are probably providing Team Obama with some confidence as the public lays responsibility for what ails us at the feet of congress over the President by nearly a two to one margin.

Mitt Watch - The Most Brazen Hypocrite In Presidential History

Well, Team Romney today released the latest ad smearing the President and misinforming the electorate about new flexibility allowed to the states in the administration of their benefit programs. There is coverage HERE and HERE and the ad is at the bottom if you are interested.
What makes this lie more egregious than almost all of his others is the fact that Romney fought hard as governor of Massachusetts for states to have the very latitude that he now attacks. Below is a screengrab from the RGA document, bearing his signature, pleading with then President Bush to support "increased waiver authority" in America's welfare system.
I don't expect any comment from Romney or his team explaining the hypocrisy as the entire campaign has become a surreal exercise in the mendacious.
Forget for a moment that the Obama order comes at the request of desperate Republican governors grappling with the ongoing financial crisis. This was something Romney thought was good policy when the economy was comparably strong.
None of this matters to a campaign which has shown its willingness to rile their own base by any means necessary. If that means preying upon white fears and coding propaganda with classic, right wing imagery of shiftless, lazy poor people (psst, "blacks") then so be it.

Let's all be really clear about today's vulgar display by the Daily Caller's Neil Munro; this was how he interrupted the President in mid-sentence during his immigration speech in the Rose Garden.
Set aside issues of respect or decorum. This was not journalism. Frankly, Munro's outburst wasn't even a question. It was an accusation. It was also bottom-feeding race-bait. Period. It's indefensible. Watch it for yourselves.
And just how did Tucker Carlson's rag deal with their bomb thrower?
Every time I think Carlson has hit bottom, his rabble dig deeper. HERE's the convoluted statement they issued shortly after their tweet.

Breaking nearly three weeks of silence on the subject, President Obama addressed the concerns of the Occupy Movement yesterday. Via HuffPo:
"At a Thursday news conference, president Barack Obama said demonstrators picketing against Wall Street are expressing the frustrations of the American public.
"People are frustrated and the protesters are giving voice to a more broad-based frustration about how our financial system works," he said.
Obama added that he understands the public's concerns regarding the structure of the nation's financial system. Occupy Wall Street has been ongoing since Sept. 17 in New York, and has spread to other cities across the country.
"The American people understand that not everybody's been following the rules," he said."

A week ago today, I sent Congress the American Jobs Act. It’s a plan that will lead to new jobs for teachers, for construction workers, for veterans, and for the unemployed. It will cut taxes for every small business owner and virtually every working man and woman in America. And the proposals in this jobs bill are the kinds that have been supported by Democrats and Republicans in the past. So there shouldn’t be any reason for Congress to drag its feet. "President Obama's debt-ceiling remarks were interesting for two reasons: what he said, and what he didn't say.
What he said is that we're not doing a short-term deal. "I’ve heard reports that there may be some in Congress who want to do just enough to make sure that America avoids defaulting on our debt in the short term, but then wants to kick the can down the road when it comes to solving the larger problem of our deficit," the president. "I don’t share that view."
If you take the president at his word, that's something of a scary comment. Washington's working definition for "solving the larger problem of our deficit" is $4 trillion in deficit reduction over the next 10-12 years, including substantial taxes and changes to Medicare and Medicaid. There's no way Republicans and Democrats are going to agree on a package like that by late-July. Nor is one needed by late-July. What's needed by late-July is an increase in the debt ceiling. We need, in Austan Goolsbee's piquant terms, to avoid "the first default in history caused purely by insanity."
Indeed. Avoiding a permanent and devastating (not to mention potentially world wide) economic disaster does not qualify as "kicking the can."

Obama's Victories Vs. The Failure Of Dialogue

It has been a remarkable "lame-duck" session of congress. There is no disputing that. From the repeal of DADT to the ratification of the new START treaty to the 11th hour passage of the 9/11 responders bill, it has been a whirlwind of victories for President Barack Obama. These were also all victories for the American people. How easily we forget that a mere 7 days ago, the people were handed an equally significant defeat when Sen Harry Reid (D-NV) pulled the omnibus spending bill.
In the glow of the aforementioned accomplishments, we have all but ceased discussion of the fact that our government is technically not funded through the current fiscal year. Considering the American people's overwhelming response to these other last minute initiatives, the failure to hold a full floor debate on the omnibus spending bill seems all the more unforgivable. As I argued last week, we didn't have to win that fight. The fight for the bill was more important than it's passage.
The average citizen should have been given the opportunity to witness openly just whom is on their side and what the next round's stakes are. Aside from the most rabidly libertarian and the incredibly uninformed, the politically educated know that earmarks aren't bad; Rather, BAD earmarks are bad. It's as simple as that.
After thirty years of misguided Reaganomic extremism and radical "free-marketeerism," the earmark has become one of the primary tools to fix infrastructure, secure the stability of utilities in trouble and support research that pays off roughly 10 fold for the health and well being of the country. Most Republicans know this to be true but chose to play cynical little games during the election for short term political capital.
Majority leader Sen. Harry Reid gave up without any of these points being made in front of the people. To be sure, the far-right of the Republican party has been given pause by the last few day's Democratic successes. But Reid's failure to set up the grassroots of the left to start pushing back now against the incoming Republican majority house is an error of epic proportions. The right is not so much licking their wounds as they are rubbing their hands together.
As the 112th congress-of-crazy rolls in, we should be prepared for a full shutdown of the federal government and blistering fights waged by those who piously spout platitudes about America while simultaneously attempting to undermine the last 70 years of progress that define her.
I will concede that we do have a much stronger figure in President Obama than we did even 4 weeks ago. It may be all up to him and the bully pulpit. If I had Obama's ear, I would simply say this:
"Fight like Teddy Roosevelt, man. Because these guys are assholes!"

Analyzing Obama's re-election odds in The WaPo, Mr. Krauthammer wrote that they are "now more likely than not" following the passage of the controversial tax code extension.
"Obama had a bad November. Self-confessedly shellacked in the midterm election, he fled the scene to Asia and various unsuccessful meetings, only to return to a sad-sack lame-duck Congress with ghostly dozens of defeated Democrats wandering the halls. Now, with his stunning tax deal, Obama is back. Holding no high cards, he nonetheless managed to resurface suddenly not just as a player but as orchestrator, dealmaker and central actor in a high $1 trillion drama," Krauthammer wrote.
Not so fast, comes the response from Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY). “Let me give you another point of view. I think Charles Krauthammer’s very smart, but on this, he’s totally wrong,” he huffed on CNN’s State of the Union program Sunday morning.

Newt Gingrich has outdone himself. It wasn't enough that yesterday he chose to mark the anniversary of 9/11 by releasing his Citizen's United propaganda DVD at $19.95 a pop. Nope, there's further contribution to our national dialog in the form of verbal bomb throwing over at the National Review.
“What if [Obama] is so outside our comprehension, that only if you understand Kenyan, anti-colonial behavior, can you begin to piece together [his actions]?” Gingrich asks. “That is the most accurate, predictive model for his behavior.”
In the interview, he cites and seems to draw strength from a recent anti-Obama hit piece in Forbes by Dinesh D'souza. Although his own inflammatory comments are getting the most coverage, I think it is this alignment with D'Souza that is both more telling and more offensive.
