After The Iowa Caucus - ANOTHER Lurch To The Right?

It's official; Mitt Romney is in serious trouble. Sure, he "won" the Iowa Caucus by an entirety of eight votes. But, he is still in very serious trouble.
It's not merely the near-upset by Santorum that we predicted might happen yesterday which endangers him. Nor is it the strong likelihood that Romney will be unable to resist pandering to the Dominionist voters who nearly defeated him.
No. What Romney should be very afraid of is Newt Gingrich.

Everyone is talking about the drippingly hateful and openly Dominionist shocker that is Rick Perry's latest campaign ad. Feel free to click the link, I refuse to post it on our page. The first thing Perry wants us all to know is that he's "not ashamed to call himself a Christian." Gee, Rick, neither am I. I'm glad we cleared that up.
Sullivan is furious:
"Can someone tell me, outside a few hostile enclaves on the intolerant left, where in America people feel pressured not to call themselves Christians? What you have here is classic - and imagined - victimology."
In the ad, Perry accuses President Obama of waging a "war on religion." Questioned by Wolf Blitzer about the arch salvo, Perry demonstrates a view of faith in the public square that would send the Founders into a full-on freak out. Not only does he double down on every bit of his venom, he seems to argue that that it's un-Constitutional not to fund activist religious organizations from the public purse.

It seems like I tip my hat in this matter every few months or so to Megyn Kelly. She definitely earned this one. Dr. Keith Ablow, anti-LGBT zealot and fellow Fox personality, was arguing his case for a boycott of Dancing With The Stars over Chaz Bono's participation. His position? Young viewers could suddenly turn into, well, Chaz Bono. After doing everything in her power to remain gracious, Kelly had finally had enough of his nonsense. The money quotes:
"How many kids turned gay from watching Will and Grace?"
"There’s so much hate for gays, and lesbians, and transgender people, the thing is, Doc, you seem to be adding to the hate."

Meet Michael Barone. If you are unfamiliar with his work, he is quite the conservative stalwart. There is not a lot of common ground between his worldview and my own. That much is certain. However, yesterday he published a pretty strong defense of gay marriage over at the National Review. What makes it all the more remarkable is that he did so within the framework of his conservative principles.
"Opponents of same-sex marriage argue that it would weaken the institution of the family. Certainly there are problems there: Rising percentages of children are raised by one parent or none, and nearly 50 percent of teenage children in non-college households did not live with both parents. Yet outcomes for children raised in two-parent families are far better than for those who are not."
Here's the kicker:
"I think the institution of the family is less threatened by a few people who want to get married than by the very many more people who get divorced or who have children without getting married at all."
It's worth reading the whole piece. All the same, you might want to avoid the comments section.

As the slow but steady progress towards full equality for the LGBT community continues here in our own country, another African nation has increased its open oppression. It is time for all western nations to offer asylum to those whose very lives may in danger due to their orientation.
