Stephen Kruiser on "Tolerance"

Feb 26th, 2012

When "comedian" Stephen Kruiser isn't bringing his "humor" to outlets like Fox's Red Eye, he tweets funny things like this.

Santorum Watch - Obama Equals Hitler Edition

Feb 21st, 2012

Way back in 2010, while stumping for Republican candidate Pat Toomey, GOP darling and potential 2012 Presidential nominee compared the sitting President to a schoolyard drug dealer and argued that he posed the same threat to the world as Hitler. I shit you not.

"World's Holiest Sausage Fest"

Godwin Alert - Anti-Contraception Edition

Feb 8th, 2012

HuffPo reports:

"Conservative commentator Eric Metaxas took thereligious lobbyists' argument against birth control coverage to a new extreme on MSNBC Tuesday morning, comparing the Obama administration's new contraception mandate to the rise of Nazi Germany."

Let's be clear; this employer provision has nothing to do "religious freedom." It's about making corporations, profit or non, that participate in our markets and feed at the public trough follow the same rules as everyone else.

Period.

Godwin's Law Violation Award Nominee - Iowa Edition

Jan 3rd, 2011

Well, it finally happened. I should have know it would. MSNBC reports:

"With a sense of history on the biggest political day -- to date -- of the 2012 cycle, Texas Gov. Rick Perry today compared the GOP's quest to defeat President Barack Obama to one of the deadliest battles of the D-Day landings in Normandy in 1944.

"This election is about stopping a president of the United States and his administration that is abusing the Constitution of this country, that is putting America on a track to bankruptcy," Perry told a hotel ballroom packed with more than 200 volunteers.

"It is a powerful moment in Americans' history, and you are on the front lines," he added. "This is Concord. This is Omaha Beach. This is going up the hill realizing that the battle is worth winning."

And just who were we fighting on Omaha Beach? Sure, you can argue that it's simply a poor metaphor. You could also argue that Perry is too stupid to actually know what he is saying. But that would be bullshit.

Regarding Allen West's Godwin Violation

Dec 16th, 2011

Earlier, we nominated Rep. Allen West (R-FL) for a Godwin Award following his conflation of the Democratic Party's "propaganda machine" with Goebbels.

Steve Benen chimes in:

"Now, I think it’s fair to say most objective, independent observers would agree that Allen West is stark raving mad, which suggests his comments are not to be taken especially seriously.

But just for the sake of conversation, let’s note a couple of things. First, I think it’s called the Democratic Party. If West is going to be in Congress, he should probably take a moment to learn the parties’ names.

Second, earlier this year, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) made a passing reference to Goebbels when going after Republican rhetoric, and Fox News was apoplectic. Megyn Kelly, in particular, devoted quite a bit of time to covering the comment, and I can’t wait to see — in the interests of being fair and balanced — how much time she invests in criticizing Allen West for the same misdeed.

And finally, even if we put aside the Nazi garbage, what on earth is West talking about? Democrats are good at message dissemination? Democrats“have an incredible propaganda machine”? Since when?

I’ve been watching Democratic politics for as long as I can remember. The party has plenty of strengths, but the development of an “incredible propaganda machine” isn’t one of them."

"If Joseph Goebbels was around, he’d be very proud of the Democrat Party, because they have an incredible propaganda machine."

Godwin's Law Violation Award Nominee

Sept 19th, 2011

Following my somewhat humorous pushback against the right's freak-out over AttackWatch.com last week, posted HERE, HERE, and HERE, I received quite the inbox full of alarmist invective. This fellow, however, was far and away the most entertaining.

I still say it's just a website.

"And yes Herr Parker, Hitler’s Nuremburg rallies were Teutonic halftime shows!!!

You see there are none so blind as those who prefer not to see.

This web sight sounds and smells like Herman Göering’s, Heinrich Himmler’s, and Adolf Hitler’s Reichssicherheitshamptamt (main state security agency) the umbrella agency of both the Sicherheitsdients or SD (security service) and the Sicherheitspolizei (security police) before both morphed into the Geheimestaatspolizei, (secret state police) shortened to Gestapo in conversational German.

If my above analysis of Attack Watch proves to be to harsh, then it is at least Nixonian, so take your pick… Excuse me now, someone is banging on my front door...!!!"

Points for the multiple violations of Godwin's Law. Extra credit for the lesson in Nazi bureaucracy. Smiley sticker for the repeated use of triple exclamations.
