His Name Was Malcolm

May 19th, 2011

"A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything." --Malcolm X

On this day in 1925, a child was born in Omaha, Nebraska named Malcolm Little. Even today, he is either hyped or he is stereotyped. This is a disservice. He was more than any simple symbolic figure. His contribution is more than any mere slogan. He was a great and complex man. He was imperfect and also brilliant. His anger was outmatched by his wisdom. Like so many during the turbulence of the 60s, he was ripped from us.

He was a great American. Period.
"I believe in human beings, and that all human beings should be respected as such, regardless of their color." -- El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz aka Malcolm X
