Seriously. For a candidate who just attempted a pivot to education issues, this is unreal.

Slogans like "Believe in America," "Obama Isn't Working," and "I'm a Mom for Mitt" are just a few of the Mitt-tastic phrases that can be slapped on your iPhone photos, proudly pronouncing your support of the GOP candidate.
If only he was equally as concerned with supporting our great nation. Much to the delighted displeasure of Twitter, one particular frame option betrays Romney's secret agenda working toward bettering a place known as Amercia." EMPHASIS OURS

This morning over at NRO, Jonah Goldberg is hyping a Washington Examiner (yeah, they're not biased) article which opens as follows:
"In an unprecedented slap at NASA's endorsement of global warming science, nearly 50 former astronauts and scientists--including the ex-boss of the Johnson Space Center--claim the agency is on the wrong side of science and must change course or ruin the reputation of the world’s top space agency.
Challenging statements from NASA that man is causing climate change, the former NASA executives demanded in a letter to Administrator Charles Bolden that he and the agency "refrain from including unproven remarks" supporting global warming in the media."
Okay, it sounds big and dramatic. In fact, it's as breathless as print propaganda gets. It's still certifiable horseshit. Who is behind this effort? This is who:
"Former Apollo astronauts Walter Cunningham and Harrison “Jack” Schmitt are listed as the main contacts for the letter, and their past advocacy against climate change science calls into question the scientific validity of the petition.
In 2009 Schmitt appeared on the talk show of 9/11 conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and said that he believed that the environmental movement was a front for Communism.
"I think the whole trend really began with the fall of the Soviet Union. Because the great champion of the opponents of liberty, namely communism, had to find some other place to go and they basically went into the environmental movement," Schmitt said." EMPHASIS MINE

The Helium Crisis

No. Really. The dwindling supply is threatening vital science. It would seem that children's parties and the squeeky-voiced are to blame.
The Guardian reports:
"Oleg Kirichek, the leader of a research team at the Isis neutron beam facility at the UK's Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, had an unpleasant shock last week. One of his key experiments, designed to probe the structure of matter, had to be cancelled – because the facility had run out of helium.
The gas, used to cool atoms to around -270C to reduce their vibrations and make them easier to study, is now becoming worryingly scarce, said Kirichek. Research facilities probing the structure of matter, medical scanners and other advanced devices that use the gas may soon have to reduce operations or close because we are frittering away the world's limited supplies of helium on party balloons."
For a remarkably potential species, we really are idiots.

Who Elected The Idiots

A little history for those playing along at home. In 1996 Tom Clancy wrote a book called Executive Orders. It had three very eerie story arcs that concerns us today. The first was that terrorists would use airplanes to wipe out the U.S. Government. Second was that the US Government, what there was of it, would target an individual leader in the Middle East for execution and, third, that the people would rise up and elect “common people” to public office so that real Americans could finally get represented. Before I get to those arcs I’d like to point out that while Clancy’s politics are to the right of mine he is no idiot. He is careful in his assertions and thorough in his research. He also tells one hell of a good story when he sets his mind to it. His mistake is the same as William F. Buckley’s was in the 70′s when he eviscerated Dr. Martin Luther King’s vision of civil disobedience by comparing it to rioting and looting. Both men assumed that everyone got the point, and – when required – the joke. In other words both men assumed that every conservative was similar to them.
They were wrong.

Newt & Perry's Epic Ground Game Failure

Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry have both failed to secure a spot on the ballot for the important Virginia GOP primary. This is the most inept ground game failure I can remember in a quarter century of watching the American process.
Both candidates are fantastically wealthy, have plenty of time to show up at the so-called "debates" (or on FOX News) and have made every other effort imaginable to stay in the limelight.
But, they didn't get enough signatures to appear on the ballot. How many are required? 10,000. What's the population of Virginia? A little over eight million.
The state wide requirement for ballot inclusion is that each candidate must have a minimum of 400 valid signatures from each of 11 congressional districts. The remainder can all come from a single district. How they could have failed is indicative of only two possible things:
A. They don't really care and this all a big joke to them. They're only real interest is to raise profile and sell books.
B. They really are that stupid and this should automatically disqualify them both from having any executive position whatsoever... ever.
We're talking about Virginia. This is a state that actually has elected a guy like Ken Cuccinelli to an office higher than dogcatcher. One of Virginia's first orders of business following the Tea Party wave in 2010 was a massive assault on women's rights and an attempted rollback of almost all protections against gender, orientation and race bias.
This is their territory. Gingrich would likely have won the state even if his star is falling.
As the GOP establishment has been increasingly disturbed by the ascendancy of Ron Paul in early polling, many have made the obvious observation that he simply has a better ground game.
The current Republican field would be wise to consider that no matter how effective FOX News has been in attempting to bring down the current President, it is not the principle mechanism with which the country will elect the next one.

FOXNews' Mubarak Resignation Blunder

Since FOXNews didn't feel the need to actually cover the Suleiman statement announcing Mubarak's departure that I and 100s of millions of others watched around the world, here's footage of their man in Cairo saying "We're now hearing this unbelievable roar from Tahrir Square... we don't know what that's about." Yes, facepalm. This is why we should all be watching Al Jazeera.
