"WASHINGTON—Following Sunday’s pathetic excuse for an agreement on raising the government’s borrowing limit, Democrats and Republicans took time to celebrate the meager, ineffective deal, calling it “a testament to the not-so-great things that can happen in Washington when both parties barely come together and agree to not really accomplish anything.” “It took months of phone calls, negotiations, and meetings, but finally we created a pretty sad version of a framework that, we’re happy to say, none of us is really proud of, and that doesn’t really do much to solve our country’s fiscal problems at all,” said House Speaker John Boehner, who gave a cheerful thumbs up and added that the sorry piece of legislation was expected to pass both houses of Congress with a really pitiful display of bipartisan support. “Once again, Democrats and Republicans have demonstrated why our mangled, fractured, barely functioning democracy is the greatest in the world.” At press time, members of both parties were trying to explain to their supporters how the budget agreement could in any possible way be construed as a victory for them."

The successful elimination of the terrorist Osama Bin Laden by the Obama Administration was just the beginning. There was another bombshell announcement from Washington this afternoon. It was revealed that early this morning President Barack Obama ordered the use of previously secret technology to send former President George W. Bush back in time to give a message of hope to the troops
and Bush himself one more chance.
Papers from the period in 2003 to which he was temporarily returned show that W, true to form, got the message a little wrong. Having taken along the MISSION ACCOMPLISHED banner Secretary Clinton had made yesterday rather than the WE WILL GET BIN LADEN banner he was supposed to display, years of hilarity ensued.
Referring to the WE WILL GET BIN LADEN banner left behind by the former President, President Obama is rumored to have muttered, "What the hell am I supposed to do with this?" When asked if perhaps the former President might be sent back to the past a second time to attempt to undo the damage, President Obama reportedly burst into hysterical laughter which subsided quickly before his asking, "you weren't serious, right? I mean, I try and throw the guy a bone once and look what happens."

Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic does a bang-up job satirizing Glenn Beck's apologists:
"Pete Wehner has launched another of his intemperate attacks on the American patriot Glenn Beck. This latest scurrilous attack was prompted by Beck's criticism of Bill Kristol, a Wehner ally and an advocate, like Wehner, of a worldwide Muslim caliphate. (To be sure, Wehner and Kristol have spoken out against a worldwide Muslim caliphate, but I have proof, which I will reveal at a later date, perhaps on the next-to-last day of the Mayan calendar, that Wehner and Kristol are Ottoman restorationists, as well as thespians and mohels.)"

A Modest Proposal To Restore U.S. Economy

The once mighty US economy remains in deep and dangerous waters. Although the markets have largely recovered from the “Great Recession” the general public remains wary and depressed, which is potentially bad for business. It is also a political minefield. Unemployment floats around 10 % by official standards, closer to 20% if one includes those who have ceased looking for work. Despite modest job gains in 2010 at current rates employment growth will take 5 or 6 years to reach pre-recession unemployment levels of 5-6%. Indeed, it may be that the problem lies deeper and that many of the workers recently laid off during this difficult time were comparatively unproductive and will not need to be replaced. We may well shoulder a 10% unemployment rate far into the future. In any case, once high hopes for “change” have been dashed against the rocks of a deep and extended downturn. Inflammatory rhetoric from liberal elites and labor groups about the possibility of shifting economic focus to risky and untried ventures in “green jobs” puts the American way of life at risk. Quality of life measures rank America lower and lower, and despite relatively high worker productivity, our creative and technological edge is growing dull. Rising nations such as India and China will soon surpass us in critical areas such as inventing new products. Education and healthcare are thankfully still private enterprises, yet they consume increasingly large shares of the economic pie for most families. National solutions to these problems are out of the question, of course. Any reasonable person understands that such solutions must be too expensive and disruptive to the profits of current business leaders to even be considered. Yet recent pro-business political gains may well evaporate if the recovery does not soon produce sufficient job growth to avoid a broad based re-evaluation of the political and economic system.
